It is basically impossible to prevent natural disasters. However, with suitable provisional measures their effects can be reduced. Should such a situation arise, the Civil Protection partner organisations take the necessary steps to minimise the impact on the population, buildings and the environment. It is decisive that the population adopts the correct procedures in the event of a natural disaster. In the same way as for other disasters and emergencies, the ability of every person to help themselves and to help others is extremely important.

Therefore everyone should be able to contribute in some way to ensuring his or her own safety. To this end, the various centres of expertise draw up lists of recommended procedures.

When the population is under imminent threat, the Civil Protection command units can prescribe procedures to protect the population and its vital resources.
