NEOC can be reached by its partner organisation round the clock 365 days a year. Its entry portal is the NEOC Warning Centre, which is operated by MeteoSwiss. The centre carries out rapid procedures autonomously. All other in-coming reports are passed on to NEOC's tactical standby service. About half of NEOC's employees serve in its tactical standby service.
Some 400 cases a year demand an appraisal of the situation by those doing standby service and possibly reference to specialists, either from NEOC or its partners.
NEOC trains its standby team members itself. Training consists of several course modules over a period of about one year.
Apart from the tactical standby service, NEOC operates two technical standby services (IT and infrastructure).
